Does a dark coloured roof make your home hotter and your air conditioner work harder?

The age-old question… does a dark-coloured roof make your home hotter?

Well, our test shows, it sure does!

Our install manager Graeme suggested we talk more about this topic in our blog, after completing a site inspection at a house with a colorbond roof.

“I went to a job with a monument color bond roof, only 28 degrees outside but it was a whopping 49.7 degrees inside the roof cavity! This is with insulation against the tin and batts.”

So if energy efficiency is high on your list of must haves when building a new home, one suggestion we have is don’t go for the dark-coloured roof, and make sure you speak to us about a highly efficient air conditioning install with a top-of-the-range rooftop solar system to match.
