Keep Cool During Perth Heat

Don’t let the hot Australian sun keep you from enjoying your summer. There are a few simple tricks you can do to combat the heat, if you don’t have an air conditioner handy. If you do have an air conditioner, these tricks can also help you to cut down your energy costs if you don’t have an efficient air conditioner.

Chill Your Sheets Before Bed

Tired of going to bed and sweating it out at night. Take your sheets and place them in a freezer bag in the morning. When you are ready to go to bed, pull them out just before you go to bed. This will help you to offset some of the summer heat so you can cool off before you go to sleep.

Create a Cool Breeze

A fan can be your greatest ally in the hot summer months. Fill a large bowl with ice and place it in front of the fan and turn the unit on. As the air blows over the ice, it will help to drop the temperature in the room. This is a great way to get the power of cold air blowing in your home, without having to crank up the air conditioner at the same time. Take things a step further by creating a cross breeze in your home.

Cool Off Quickly

If you don’t want to crank on the air conditioner, but need to cool off fast you do have an option. An ice pack to the wrists, neck, ankles, and groin will actually cool you off quickly. With your temperature dropping, you can find some respite in the heat, until you are able to turn on the air conditioner and cool then entire home to a comfortable temperature.

Shut Off the Lights and Appliances

The lights in your home and the appliances you run all contribute to how hot your home is. Make sure you keep lights turned off, and keep televisions and computers off when they are not in use. That way, you aren’t contributing to the warmth of the home, so that you can enjoy a few degrees of relief in your home.

Take of the Socks and Douse Your Feet in Cold Water

Another trick to cooling off in the summer is to dunk your feet in cold water. This allows you to quickly cool off and to find some relief. You can then leave your socks off and allow the fresh air to get them to help you to remain cooler. You can also take the time to enjoy a steamy hot shower in the middle of summer with the bathroom door closed. When you leave the bathroom, close the door behind you and the sudden change in temperature will help you to feel cooler.

Remember, there are plenty of things you can do to keep cool this summer. Begin with a routine check up of your air conditioner system and ensure that it is functioning at peak levels before the summer begins. That way, you have a comfortable solution when you need it the most.
